Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for details.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
