Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to learning which players will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
